The 99 Dalmatian Puppies appear in Kingdom Hearts as part of a side-quest. The addition of the Dalmatian Puppies is in reference to the Disney Film from 1961, 101 Dalmatians, and the book before that was written in 1956.

After having their world destroyed, the Dalmatian Puppies were scattered across many worlds. Following his discovery of some of the puppies, Sora decides that he will collect all 99 of them and return them to their parents, Pongo and Perdita, who are stranded in Traverse Town. Gradually, as Sora finds more of the puppies, the house in Traverse Town will fill up, until it is overrun by puppies.

Locating all 99 puppies allows for various rewards to be obtained and finally reuniting all of them, adds a secret ending to the game.
