Sora grew up on a series of Islands. He is friends with Riku, and the two of them are extremely competitive in everything they do.Sometime later saw the arrival of Kairi who came from another island and she was adapoted by the Mayor. The three of them quickly became friends. One day though everything began to change, when Sora and Riku were out exploring they stumbled upon a cave. Inside the cave the two discovered a strange door which neither of them could open.
Thinking nothing of it the three of them had plans to leave Destiny Islands to explore the world beyond. In order to do this they came up with the idea to construct a raft. However, during the construction Sora fell asleep and has a strange dream, whereby he ends up fighting a massive dark creature, he is awakened by the sound of Kairi's voice ordering him to find provisions for their journey.
On the day before they set sale a storm brews and Riku is lost to the storm despite Sora's best attempts. Not only this but strange dark beings known as the Heartless appear and Sora gains a Keyblade in order to fight against them. The strange ordeal sees him facing off against the Massive Heartless from his earlier dream, and he ends up cast off the island into darkness, where he next awakes in Traverse Town.
Outside the Islands
Upon arriving in Traverse Town, he soon bumps into Donald Duck and Goofy who are looking for a key and a man named Leon. They discover that Sora's keyblade might be what they were actually searching for and agree to accompany him in his quest to find his friends.Much later in the story, after visiting several worlds and making many new friends, while at the same time locking the Heartless out from the worlds he visits. He finally finds Riku, however, soon discovers that Riku's mind has been poisoned by Maleficent during his search for Kairi, and is convinced that Sora has betrayed both him and Kairi by joining up with Donald and Goofy.
Old Friends Meet Again
When he confronts Riku at Hollow Bastian, Riku takes Sora's keyblade, upon doing so Goofy and Donald are forced to follow suit and they have to follow the Keyblade, however, when Sora persists in trying to fight Riku they rejoin him, because of their friendship the Keyblade also returns to Sora. Riku fights Sora, furious at his defeat he allows himself to become possessed by Xehanort's Heartless.Soon after Sora fights Maleficent, when she is defeated the darkness in her heart is unlocked by Riku, and she turns into a dragon only to be defeated again by Sora.
Sora faces off against Ansem who has now fully taken control of Riku and is forced to fight his friend once more. Sora manages to rescue Kairi who was one of the seven princesses of heart, the reason the door to Kingdom Hearts couldn't be opened was because her heart lay within Sora. In order to return her hearts and wake her, Sora uses Riku's dark keyblade on himself in the process it turns Sora into a Heartless, but in turn Kairi is able to wake.
Kairi, discovering the strange looking Heartless before her is Sora, uses her light to return him back to his human form. Returning to Traverse Town she is saddened to find she can't join Sora in his attempt to rescue Riku, and thus gives him her lucky charm.
Kingdom Hearts Beckons
Eventually Sora and his friends confront and defeat Xehanort's Heartless at the End of the World, and as he calls forth to Kingdom Hearts to fill him with darkness he discovers it is infact light and it in turn destroys him. The door now unlocked allows Heartless inside, Sora, Donald and Goofy rush to close it. As they do so Riku and Mickey appear on the other side of the door. Riku and Mickey are trapped as the door shuts, Riku leaves Sora with a few choice words "Take care of her" as the door closes.Unfortunatly not only is Sora separated from Riku he is also unable to return to Kairi as well, as the Worlds restore themselves she is taken back to Destiny Islands. Sora promises himself that he will return to her when he finds King Mickey and Riku.
Kingdom Hearts II
Playable Character / Main Protagonist
At the beginning of the game Sora is seen standing at a set of crossroads, reminiscing about Kairi. It's a while before he actually gets a proper role in the game as his appearances are just jumbled dreams experienced by Roxas. Eventually though when Sora wakes up he finds Donald and Goofy waiting for him, its apparent somehow he ended up in a kinda capsule and was placed in a sleep status, as his clothes are now far too small for him, something that Donald and Goofy find absolutely hilarious.
They discover they are in a strange town called Twilight Town and Sora has some feeling that he's been here before. They meet Olette, Pence and Hayner who also seem somewhat familiar to him. They tell Sora that someone was looking for him and the description they give sounds exactly like King Mickey.
Upon hearing this news the trio rush to the station in hope of finding him, and when they get there they are attacked by a bunch of Nobodies, Mickey arrives to help them defeat them. He then tells them they need to leave town, and hands Sora a Munney Pouch, before quickly disappearing again. However, the fact Mickey is not in the realm of darkness any more gives Sora the ambition he needed as Riku may also have left the realm of darkness.
As they are about to leave Twilight Town, Hayner, Pence and Olette arrive saying thay had to see them off, Hayner also asks Sora if they have ever met before. Sora replies that he's positive they haven't but as he does so, he smiles and a tear rolls down his cheek, surprising everyone.
Shortly after leaving, they arrive at a Tower and find Pete skulking around outside, he tells them about Maleficent's plans and how she freed him. However, he is quite annoyed to discover Sora's claims to defeating her may have been true. Sora learns from Pete that Yen Sid lives in the tower and that he was the King's Mentor. When they reach the top of the tower they are greeted by Yen Sid, who explains to Sora that he is the key connecting everything together.
Yen Sid hands Sora a book which he urges him to read, Sora does so and despite Yen Sid's explanation of the Heartless and the new threat the Nobodies Sora is a little disheartened by the whole situation. Yen Sid then directs Sora to see the three good fairies about his current "Garments" after some trouble getting them to agree on his look, Sora is proud with his new threads, and the new powers they harbor. Returning to Yen Sid he discovers the Gummi Ship is also here and sets off to explore new worlds.
