With the release of Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance and the tenth anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts franchise coming up, Square Enix prepared a couple of special goodies to celebrate.
First off, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance will be getting its very own limited edition Nintendo 3DS bundle that includes the game, a Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance themed Nintendo 3DS, and a Dream Eater AR card that can be used to unlock a rare Dream Eater within the game. This bundle costs 21,090 yen.
In honor of Kingdom Hearts having its tenth anniversary, Square Enix will also be leasing what's known as the Kingdom Hearts 10th Anniversary Box. This set not only has Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, but it also comes with two additional Kingdom Heart's games: Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded (both are the Nintendo DS version). All of this plus a protective cover with an original design and 12 postcards with Kingdom Hearts visuals is for 15,000 yen.
Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance is out for Japan on March 29.
Famitsu recently grabbed an interview with Tetsuya Nomura, who revealed quite a few interesting pieces of information regarding Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance.
Alongside the worlds of Pinnochio and The Three Musketeers, there's a world based on Fantasia known as "Symphony of Sorcery." The scans show Mickey donning his apprentice's attire while in his dream sequence, meeting with Riku, and along with the enchanted brooms. There's also an image that has Chernabog appearing in front of Riku.
Dream Drop Distance's ending is apparently considered unconventional according to Tetsuya Nomura.
The director spoke in an interview with Famitsu recently, teasing fans that the ending isn't quite like anything the series has seen. He also revealed that the original ending for the 3DS title didn't make the cut.
Like any other Kingdom Hearts titles, Dream Drop Distance will also have a secret ending that will tie into the next instalment. Prepare your big boy/girl/other pants, it's said to be shocking.
Square Enix have officially confirmed that Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance will indeed have a western release sometime next year.
Dream Drop Distance will follow Sora and Riku's story as they enter a dream world where they meet up with characters from the game The World Ends with You. So far Pinnochio, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and the Three Musketeers worlds have been confirmed. Tron was featured in the Jump Festa 2012 trailer although Square Enix has not yet confirmed it.
Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance debuted at this year's Jump Festa, where attendees got the chance to get their hands on a demo and view a new trailer for the game. During the event, we were only able to get impressions of the demo and trailer, but now the trailer is up for everyone to enjoy!
The trailer goes on for a whopping eight minutes and is full of cutscenes (both real-time and CG) as well as gameplay. As mentioned earlier in the trailer rundown here, the video has a great line of appearances returning from the previous games (although, not in the same way that you would've expected), including some new faces from The World Ends with You. This trailer we've got for you here also includes English subtitles, so make sure you click on the 'close captioned' button if they don't appear.
Although there's no definite date set yet, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance is expected for a release in Japan sometime in March 2012.
