Dream Drop Distance 40-50 Percent Complete, KH3 Sees The End Of Xehanort's Role

3D3DS by Colin

Speaking with Famitsu, Tetsuya Nomura talked a bit about Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and how the game would answer some questions for those anxiously waiting for the ever elusive Kingdom Hearts III.

As per KH tradition, DDD will feature a secret movie that ties in with Kingdom Hearts III. Apparently the story is pretty difficult to understand (surprise, surprise) and it involves Sora's secret data as well as Traverse Town. DDD is about 40-50 percent complete in terms of development and Famitsu also notes that players can see their favourite locations from a new perspective as you'll be able to climb atop buildings.

Sora and Riku are the two lead characters in DDD, however Nomura also mentions that Sora will remain as the series' main protagonist even post Kingdom Hearts III. Xehanort's role, on the other hand, ends in Kingdom Hearts III.

Kingdom Hearts III Will Not Be Out By 2012

PSP by Nick

Tetsuya Nomura, Director of Kingdom Hearts, was recently interviewed by Dengeki Playstation magazine. Nomura had this to say in regards to Kingdom Hearts III.

"2012 is the 10th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts, so we'd like to do something to celebrate. However, I'll say this up front, just because it's the 10th anniversary, we still won't have KH3 out (laughs)."

This revelation is hardly surprising as Nomura had already stated that he was busy with other projects and that Kingdom Hearts III's development had not even begun yet. But this news is still interesting as Nomura still wants to do something to celebrate, something that we will have to wait and see.

Nomura also mentioned Birth by Sleep Final Mix, the re-released Japanese version of the Western Birth by Sleep. The game will contain added content as well as a few extra bosses and another secret movie. Nomura admitted that there was not a lot of content added in contrast to previous Final Mixes but those who own a save file from the original game will receive an extra bonus.

Hopefully it will be a big enough bonus to warrant buying the game a second time though.

Nomura Talks About His Plans For Kingdom Hearts III

by Nick

Tetsuya Nomura, Director of the Kingdom Hearts series was recently interviewed on the subject of the sequel all Kingdom Hearts fans are waiting for, Kingdom Hearts III. Nomura explains what is holding back the development of the game as well as what sacrifices he is willing to make to see that the game is finished.

“For any sequel of the mainstream storyline of the Kingdom Hearts series, that would be Kingdom Hearts III. But the problem is that the opportunity of developing the sequel is not currently [possible]. The team is busy, I am busy.”

Despite confirming that Kingdom Hearts III is not in development, Nomura did have this to say.

"I’m thinking about what’s going to be next after Kingdom Hearts II, the future that is Kingdom Hearts III. Time has nearly come to [work on] that concept."

With development in sight, it begs the question, When can we expect it? Nomura was asked if the game will release on the current generation of consoles. He had this to say.

"Yes it might be possible. It is my desire to develop the next Kingdom Hearts on the existing platform, but the problem with a new console is that it has new technical requirements… So, yes, I’m willing to create something on the existing console because when we aim for another non-existing future console, the release of the title will be far in the future. That’s my concern."

Nomura had earlier stated that he was a busy man, to put this into context, he explained that he had to “sacrifice my private time, my marriage, my family time” to work on his current projects. Nomura is obviously passionate about his work and that may shine through in Kingdom Hearts III's development.

When the game is finally released, I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Tetsuya Nomura On Sora and Kingdom Hearts 3

by Nick

Japanese magazine Famitsu are currently paying tribute to its fans' favourite characters with Kingdom Hearts' main character Sora being one of those chosen. Famitsu have therefore interviewed Sora's creator Tetsuya Nomura on the birth of Sora and the possible future of the Kingdom Hearts series.

Sora's original design was meant to be a mix between a lion and a human, incorporating a tail and beast-like ears. Sora was also meant to wield a chainsaw instead of the Kingdom Hearts now iconic weapon, the Keyblade. Because of the similarities between the original Sora and Final Fantasy IXs' character Zidane, Nomura and Disney decided to make a few modifications and create the character you know today.
