It almost feels like forever since Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep was announced for Europe. Only a vague Summer release window was given by Square leaving Western fans guessing when the game will finally be out.
Well all of us can stop guessing now and save up our money in anticipation for the release of the PSP exclusive title now dated for the 7th of September for North America and the 10th of September for Europe. Fans are no doubt fed up of waiting for the elusive prequel to the original Kingdom Hearts but at least the date has finally been confirmed.
I must pay my respects to the fans out there who have refused to spoil the game for themselves no matter how tempting it may be. Only a few more months to go before the game is finally in your hands.
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep has now been confirmed for Europe as well as the earlier confirmation of the North American release. Fans in both territories can expect the release of Birth by Sleep in the Summer of 2010.
Larry Sparks, Vice President Brands PAL Region of Square Enix Ltd, spoke about the announcement, saying, "Birth by Sleep is one of the most beautiful titles to grace the PSP and we’re excited about its forthcoming release across PAL territories".
Square Enix have even posted a teaser site for the upcoming PSP title which is assumed to have more information added to it as the Western release date approaches. So far, the website contains images taken from the game and a small reminder that Birth by Sleep will be available in summer, 2010.
Square Enix have announced a release window for the Western version of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. Only the North American release has been confirmed by Square so Europeans may have to wait a little while longer for news of their release.
Square Enix confirmed the summer release window on their North American site, where it states:
LOS ANGELES (March 16, 2010) — Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix® interactive entertainment products in North America, announced today that KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep will be released in North America this Summer. Coming exclusively to the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, the game is a prequel that reveals the untold origins of the popular KINGDOM HEARTS franchise.
News sites have broken out with confirmation of the European release of Birth by Sleep but Square's European website has had no news on the subject. Kingdom Hearts fans can now take solace in the fact that Birth by Sleep now has a release window and the waiting is almost over.
The latest issue of Game Informer magazine has a small import preview of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, and while that's all nice, they have published a key piece of information. They've announced when the game is likely to arrive in North America.
Information about voice acting sessions was already common knowledge, but the game now has an actual release window, Summer 2010. It means it'll arrive somewhere between the months of June and August - similar to the localisation period with Dissidia: Final Fantasy.
This is definitely great news, and hopefully it arrives during June, as opposed too August. There's also no word on a European release yet, but it's probably going to be around the same time.
Since TGS 2009's announcement that Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep would be releasing in January 2010 in Japan, it's still not been made clear exactly when. In the same article in Famitsu interviewing Nomura he also spoke about the release date;
"Well, we had to balance it with the release date of FFXIII, so once that was decided, we decided on January 2010 for BbS. We are still trying to figure out what day it will be.
At least it seems that are sticking to their guns for the January date, but they still haven't decided when it will be. For Western gamers this could potentially mean an even longer wait.
Square Enix Europe have just announced that Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days will be coming to PAL territories in October, 2009. This will come as a relief to European gamers as it is shortly after the North American release.
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is a spin-off from the main franchise that is set to appear on the Nintendo DS, the first game in the franchise to appear on the console. It follows the story of Roxas, who first appeared in Kingdom Hearts 2.
The full release date is the 9th of October, 2009, just over a week behind the North American release date.
