A Short Interview Between Nomura And Famitsu
Tetsuya Nomura, Director of the Kingdom Hearts series, had recently sat down with Japanese magazine Famitsu for a short interview. Nomura was asked specifically about the future of the series and what fans can look forward to from Square Enix post TGS.
Nomura first mentioned the recently announced Birth by Sleep Final Mix. A number of extra features have been added since the original title's release which should have Japanese fans excited. The Critical Mode difficulty setting has been added as well as new, high polygon models of Sora and his friends. The secret movie found in the original game can now be unlocked through Beginner Mode and a new, unseen secret movie has been added though Nomura did not say much about it.
Moving on to the subject of Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded, Nomura described the avatar parts system and tag mode system. The game will contain 800 parts for the in-game avatars including rare parts that will obviously be hard to find. The tag mode is a means for players to exchange their avatar parts, rare or not, and build up a collection for their perfect avatar.
Re:Coded has borrowed some elements from Birth by Sleep too. A trophy system has been added to the game giving players the opportunity to earn 30 trophies for reaching certain goals. Nomura had confirmed that earning at least 20 of these trophies will unlock a secret movie, "It's just a short single event, said Nomura, but you'll find some important conversations in there".
Re:Coded will be released in Japan next month, so many fans have been wondering which Kingdom Hearts title will be next in the series. Nomura has now stated that Kingdom Hearts 3D will be next, after Birth by Sleep Final Mix is complete. "The Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep Final Mix team is switching over to Kingdom Hearts 3D as they finish their work on Final Mix," said Nomura. "Development has already started in Osaka. As the Final Mix team finishes their work, they're joining the staff in turn. We'd like to announce it as soon as possible".
