Nomura Reveals More On Battle Systems In Dream Drop Distance
Before TGS goers got to play the Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance Demo at TGS 2011, Nomura gave gamers a bit of insight on what's to be expected gameplay wise.
As seen in teasers before, there's a lot of jumping off walls and handrails in Dream Drop Distance. Apparently this is all part of a new gameplay mechanic known as "Free Flow Action". Basically, by using only the "Y" button, players can perform a chain of actions. One such pattern could be press "Y" to jump off a wall, then press "Y" again to glide, then press "Y" again to slide down a nearby handrail. Another addition is the "Reality Check" ability, where if the player presses "X" and "A" together after attacking a foe, they'll be able to perform a special move.
The final addition, incorporates your new battle partners as seen in the Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance poster. Much like a the tri-attack with Donald and Goofy, Riku and Sora can use their "Dream Eaters" to perform cooperative attacks known as "Dual Links". There's a gauge at the bottom of the screen for both of the companions and if one of those fill up, you can perform a special attack. If you fill both of their gauges up, you'll be able to perform an even stronger attack.
Hopefully, all of these additions will make all the difference for Dream Drop Distance. This title is setup for a Spring 2012 release in Japan, so hopefully we'll get some info on the other release dates soon!
